NEW Jefferson Playground Approved for 25/26 Budget
A HUGE thank you to everyone that wrote letters of concern regarding the Jefferson playground. We are happy to announce that the playground cost was included in the budget that passed on Thursday. The PTO was able to contribute to the cost of the playground due to generous donations from our community during our drive last year. THANK YOU TO ALL!
Art in the Classroom
Art in the Classroom (AIC) is PTO-sponsored and parent volunteer run, so we need your help! Our goal is to provide an art history program that offers Jefferson School students a snapshot of prominent works of art by a wide range of famous artists. You do not need to know anything particular about art, as all the materials, lessons and project ideas are provided for you. The kids love this program, but we really need to secure volunteers for each grade and classroom in order to make it a success.
If you are interested in volunteering, check out our Google AIC Classroom to view all the lesson plans. Sign up to volunteer here!
District Calendar Change in June
On December 31, 2024, Governor Phil Murphy signed Public Law 2024, chapter 107, which rescheduled the date of the 2025 Primary Election from June 3, 2025, to June 10, 2025. As you may know, five of our schools serve as polling locations, and for the safety of our students and staff, schools are closed on election days to minimize public traffic and ensure security.
In light of this new law, the Summit Board of Education approved a calendar change at the January board meeting. Schools will now be open on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and closed on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, to accommodate the new Primary Election date.
Please note that this change does not impact the last day of school or graduation ceremonies. Summit High School Principal Stacy Grimaldi will be communicating with High School students and families on any impact to the final exams schedule.
